Identifying and Prioritizing the Factors Affecting the Occurrence of Theft (Case study: Behbahan City)

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify and prioritize the causes of theft in Behbahan. The research method in the present study is descriptive-survey and the information required for the research has been prepared by both library and field methods. Data collection tools in this study include questionnaire, interview and observation. Then, to analyze the statistical data, SPSS software was used by univariate chi-square method to test the research hypotheses. There seems to be a relationship between several factors including personal, economic, social, cultural and environmental factors and the occurrence of robbery in the city of Behbahan. It also seems that some of these factors are more important than others and have more priority. Findings showed that the first and most important factor affecting theft, lack of employment conditions and inequality in the fair distribution of facilities, the second important factor is addiction and the third important factor is migration to Behbahan, and other factors are in order of priority: protection and Anti-theft systems, failure to report crime to judicial authorities, lack of awareness of laws, unemployment, low public participation, poverty, lack of adequate parking, the presence of vicious and experienced people in the residence, lack of adequate lighting, greed and extravagance, Habit and fun and entertainment, weakness of religious beliefs.
